Exciting news for NorthShore patients, effective January 1, 2023 there will be more ACA health plans accepted and in network with NorthShore specialists. NorthShore Hospital System is spread along the north side of Chicago and the suburbs. You can check what plans are accepted by Northshore health system today by visiting the health insurance page.
New carriers have added Northshore Health system in network including Aetna, Ambetter, and BCBS-IL.

Exchange Plans:
These plans are offered by private health insurance companies and are eligible for subsidies via APTC and CSR. These plans are supported by Healthcare.gov. You can browse and enroll in an Illinois Exchange health plan here.

Employer Health Plans:
These plans are also known as commercial health plans. These plans are usually offered by your employer. Employer or commercial plans have a larger network than Exchange health insurance plans that are offered on the marketplace. See a list of employer plans that are accepted at NorthShore Health System. Note that your plan may still be accepted at NorthShore HealthSystem even if your employer is based out of the state of Illinois.
NorthShore hospitals and providers accept most employer offered health insurance plans. In Illinois the Cigna + Oscar employer health plans are participating and accepted by NorthShore HealthSystem.

Are you a Small Business Owner?
If you are a small business owner and have at least one other non family member full time employee, you can enroll in a commercial or group health plan with one of the carriers above. Group Health Insurance plans are known to have a large network of hospitals and doctors.
Government Health Plans:
Government plans are a wide range of plans that include a variety of Medicare and/or Medicaid plans. NorthShore HealthSystem participates in traditional Medicare and Medicaid as well as Family Health Plans (FHP), Integrated Care Plans (ICP) and Medicare-Medicaid Alignment Initiative (MMAI) plans. FHP, ICP and MMAI plans are often available to individuals who were previously eligible for traditional Medicaid but are now accessing managed Medicaid plans through expansion of the Affordable Care Act or “Obamacare.”
In addition, NorthShore Healthsystem participates with TriCare Military Services. For active duty military personnel and their families, this is administered by a plan for the Department of Defense.

Are short term health insurance plan accepted at Northshore Hospital?
Generally, Yes. Short Term health plans usually have PPO or Open Access coverage. Note that Short Term health insurance plans do not cover pre-existing conditions nor pregnancy visits. Make sure to enroll in an ACA compliant health insurance plan to see doctors for pre-existing illnesses.
My doctor left Northshore Hospital, can I change my Health Insurance?
You can enroll change your health insurance plan during Open Enrollment Period or Special Enrollment Period. Since your doctor moving is not an approved Qualified Event for SEP, you may not be able to change your health insurance plan until Open Enrollment. We may be bale to help, contact us.
Does Northshore accept Medicare Supplement Plans?
Yes. Since Medicare Supplement plans have national network, they are accepted by all providers that accept Medicare. Some Medical Select plans may not be accepted by Northshore Hospitals.
Does Swedich Covenant Hospital take the same insurance as Northshore?
Yes. Since Northshore acquired Swedish Covenant Hospital the same health insurance plans are accepted.
Health Insurance Plans Accepted by NorthShore HealthSystem
NorthShore HealthSystem have more than 10 hospitals spread across the city of Chicago and north suburbs. In 2021 and 2022 NorthShore HealthSystem acquired multiple hospitals including Swedish Covenant Hospital, Northwest Community Hospitals, and Edward Elmhurst Hospital. This recent hospital merger allows NorthShore HealthSystem to cater their health services to more patients across the state of Illinois. If you have a primary care provider at NorthShore HealthSystem you can see other specialists in the system without referral or prior authorization.
In 2023 there are major health insurance changes that NorthShore HealthSystem patient should be aware of in regards to their coverage and health. First, Bright Healthcare insurance company announced that they are existing the individual health insurance marketplace and thus all their clients have to enroll in a different health plan in 2023. If you are enrolled in a BrightHealthcare plan make sure to call your insurance agent or schedule a call with us before December 15th 2022 to review your current available options. If you plan on keeping your health coverage at NorthShore it is important to make sure your health insurance plan is accepted and your doctors in network.
